Abstract Submission Deadline: December 2, 2016
Acceptance Notification: January 16, 2017
Program Publication: February 2017
The Virginia Floodplain Management Association (VFMA), in conjunction with the Virginia Lakes and Watersheds Association (VLWA), is seeking abstracts for presentation at the 2017 Virginia Water Conference in Richmond, VA. Recent conferences have provided an excellent opportunity to learn about current local, state, and federal regulations and practices in floodplain management. The conference is typically attended by 300 professionals from the public and private sectors. Presentations are selected based on the abstract summaries, which will be published in the conference proceedings. Appropriate topics include research and practical applications in floodplain management (to include FEMA, state, and other programs), hydrology, hydraulics, dam safety, and related water subjects. Presentations are logically grouped in the program.
Submittal Requirements: Click here for a printable PDF.
Please submit floodplain management-related abstracts to VFMA in a Microsoft Word™ format. Please use a letter-sized format, one-inch margins, and 10-point typeface with a maximum of two such pages. Abstracts must include the presentation title as well as the name, organization, mailing address, e-mail address, and phone number of all speakers; an abstract template is also available. Separately, submit a brief biographical sketch for each speaker including name, organization, position, college/university, and related interests. Submit electronic copies of the abstract and biographical sketch to Jeff Smith, P.E., PMP, CFM at:email@example.com. File name cannot have any spaces. Use underscores (_) if needed.
Please do not submit materials for floodplain-management-related topics to VLWA, but to VFMA as noted above. If topics are received that would fit better in a concurrent VLWA conference track, VFMA will pass those abstracts to VLWA for consideration. Authors will be notified regarding acceptance by January 16, 2017, and the program will be published by early February 2017.
All speakers must register for the conference and pay the appropriate registration fee through VLWA. VLWA handles the registrations and all fees and has a concurrent call for papers. In addition, exhibition space and conference sponsorships are available.
Thank you to everyone who attended the Virginia Water Conference in March 2016, and to all those who helped plan and make presentations as part of the VFMA program. This year’s conference was one of the largest to date, and was a big success in our continued partnership with the Virginia Lakes and Watersheds Association.
